communicate each other. Language is also used to exchange the ideas, feeling,
purpose, opinion, etc. By language, we can take education and also make
relationship with other people come from other countries. Language is also used
to transfer knowledge and technology.
English
is the first foreign language in Indonesia and it has an important role in our
life. It means that language is used for communication because the human will
be able to communicate well, if they master language and understand the
language the student should master the language components, such as grammar
with its tenses, pronouns, singular, verb, etc. In fact, most of the students
are still confused in using pronouns. To improve the students’ achievement, the
teachers need suitable material in teaching pronouns. Therefore the title of
this research is the correlation between students’ pronouns mastery and their
ability in making reported speech at the first semester of the eleventh class
at SMK Pelita Gedongtataan Pesawaran in 2012/2013.

In
this case, the writer did research in order to know the correlation between students’
pronouns mastery and their ability in making reported speech. This research was
conducted at the first semester of the eleventh class at SMK Pelita
Gedongtataan Pesawaran in 2012/2013. The population consisted of 307 students. The sample of this research
was 40 students. To take the sample, the writer used stratified proportional
random sampling technique because the students’ achievement was heterogeneous.
Then to know the correlation between students’ pronouns mastery and their
ability in making reported speech the researcher conducted two kinds of test:
they were multiple choice test and essay test. In analyzing the hypothesis
test, the writer used Product Moment formula.
The
result from the calculation of students’ pronouns mastery and their ability in
making reported speech was 0.888 of the research showed that rcount
= 0.888 is higher than rtable = 0.312 by N = 40. The result showed
that there is positive correlation between students’ pronouns mastery and their
ability in making reported speech.
Eventually,
rcount = 0.888 showed that there is significant correlation between
students’ pronouns mastery and their Ability in making reported speech. In
making reported speech, pronouns has an important role and people also cannot
use English well without pronouns, including in making reported speech.
